ZAP Skim Boards
Venice’s Own ZAP Skim Boards
Born in a backyard, the first Zap Skim’er was built in 1983 by Bob Smetts, in Venice Florida. At that time, Bob was building custom surfboard and sailboards. Bob grew up in Venice, where he began skimming at age 7 on some home brewed plywood slabs.
From the shed in 1983, to the greenhouse/resin hut in the woods, to the warehouse in the town, to the current 25,000 sq. ft. factory used today, Zap has grown from a passion that still ambers today’s skimboarding flame. Our humble beginnings span two and a half decades into the skimboarding community. Firmly rooted in integrity and craftsmanship, we build 100% of our boards in Venice, FL. We fabricate our boards to meet the needs of every level of skimboarder. This includes different lamination and layup processes depending on the board being built.
